He is a Distinguished Fellow of the Institute of Strategic and International Studies Malaysia. Tan Sri Dato' Seri Dr. Haji Zainul Ariff is a former member of the Board of Malaysian Industry-Government Group For High Technology, past Chairman of Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad, former Director of MISC Berhad and Global Maritime Ventures Berhad, and former Chairmen of the Boards of Universiti Putra Malaysia and Universiti Malaysia Perlis.
